Are Microsoft Certifications worth the effort?

Are Microsoft Certifications worth the time and effort? At the end of the day can I expect much of an income bump from the certifications?

They are worth having because the certifications are recognised worldwide, you can add them to your CV and interviewers can ask you questions at interview based on what you have learned while gaining the certifications.
